One of the 9 Habits is always speaking the truth, regardless of a fear or a consequence. Truthfulness is also a sign of the believer. This is a habit, when inculcated at an early age, stays with us.

Holy Prophet Muhammad says it takes you to heaven

‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: It is obligatory for you to tell the truth, for truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise, and the man who continues to speak the truth and endeavors to tell the truth is eventually recorded as truthful with Allah, and beware of telling of a lie for telling of a lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell-Fire, and the person who keeps telling lies and endeavors to tell a lie is recorded as a liar with Allah.  (Sahih Muslim 2607 c Book 45, Hadith 136)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][vc_images_carousel images=”606,618,619,437,439,441,629,623,626″ onclick=”custom_link” mode=”vertical” autoplay=”yes” custom_links=”/salat/,/holy-quran/,/truthfulness/,/friday-sermin/,/letter-to-huzur/,/watch-mta/,/hard-work/,/chanda/,respect-for-elders/” title=”Other Habits”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_text_separator title=”For Atfal” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-book” add_icon=”true”][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section i_type=”entypo” i_icon_entypo=”entypo-icon entypo-icon-flag” title=”Why It’s Important” tab_id=”1456636925528-fc4aa126-f2ea” add_icon=”true”][vc_column_text]Ahmadi Children do NOT Lie!

Being truthful is what makes an Ahmadi Tifl different from anyone else in the world in the most amazing way. Telling the truth is not always easy, but if you make it a habit and a policy to always tell the truth, then you will be getting all these benefits.

The Abhorrence Of Lying, And The Goodness And Virtue Of Honesty:
The Promised Messiah (as) says speaking the truth helps you get to higher level of Taqwa and righteousness.   The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said:
“Man should be inclined to the finer ways of Taqwa; therein is safety/well-being. If one does not take care about small matters then one day these small matters make one commit grave sins. Laxity and carelessness would set in and cause one’s destruction. You should keep attainment of high stations of Taqwa in your view and for this, inclination towards finer ways of Taqwa is essential.” (Translated from Malfuzat, Vol. 8, p. 106)

According to Dr. Abraham Kryger, DMD, MD, there are real benefits to telling the truth. Among them are: greater success/personal expertise, an increased sense of grounding/confidence, less anxiety/worry/guilt, increased ability to deal with crises/breakdowns, improved problem-solving abilities, improved interpersonal relationships, greater emotional health/control of one’s emotions, increased ability to influence others, better sleep, better health, increased ability to think well/reason soundly, less need to control, good humor, and greater self-expression and self-satisfaction. • Make a firm resolve that you will NOT lie
  • Avoid friends who you know lie a lot. Don’t join them in their lies.
  • Let people know you of a child who always speaks the truth.
  • Don’t lie when you are “joking” – Lie is a Lie
  • Know that you are an Ahmadi Muslim – you are supposed to be different (better) as Allah has said it Himself (3:111): كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ

Allah says in Holy Quran, “O ye who believe! fear Allah, and say the right word. [33:71]

We must always keep our promises with the kids. If we promise candy or other things, then no matter how hard it is we have to keep it. As a parent, we must never lie in our personal lives and dealings. Kids are very good observers. ie. Matters of finance, buying a house, truthfulness is not just observed when it’s convenient or easy for us adults, It must be carried out unconditionally and that example resonates in Atfal.

  • You are the EXAMPLE for them at home. If parents lie or “bend the truth”, children will learn from them and do the same.
  • Encourage truthfulness at home: If your children admit to some fault where they could have also lied, then don’t reprimand them. Tell them that though they made a mistake, it would have been worse if they had lied as well. Tell them that you have to lie to conceal a lie and this cycle never ends.
  • Talk about virtue of truthfulness at home. Read stories about truthfulness.
  • Look for some more information under the Resources
