Class 1

Before going into today’s lesson please take into account the following three objectives:

  • memorization of salat
  • recitation of the Holy Qur’an, and
  • preparation for ta’leem competitions.

Regarding the memorization of salat, please ensure that each tifl has a personalized weekly goal for how much to memorize. It is important to help keep each tifl on track to reach the goal of memorizing the full salat. For Atfal younger than 10 years old the emphasis should be on memorizing salat fully in Arabic. For Atfal older than 10 years, emphasis should be put on memorizing the full salat in Arabic with the English translation.

Please check in on the Atfal regarding their preparation for ta’leem competitions. There is a minimum number of ta’leem competitions that each tifl should prepare for and participate in based on their age. Please encourage each tifl to select the ta’leem competitions which they would like to participate in. The ijtema syllabus which includes a list of the competitions along with detailed information and what to prepare for can be found at the following link.

Ages 7-8: Minimum 2 competitions
Ages 9-10: Minimum 3 competitions
Ages 11-12: Minimum 3 competitions
Ages 13-15: Minimum 4 competitions

In the last class, the Atfal were to have discussed the need for God and the importance of seeking out Allah’s guidance in this day and age as well as if they have had any discussions with their peers at school or their social circles outside of the masjid regarding this topic and what kinds of questions they may get asked. They also were to have done some research about some prophecies of the Holy Prophet (saw) and the Promised Messiah (as) and should have brought an example of one to today’s class for discussion about how it can prove the existence of God.

For today’s class please continue the discussion regarding how prophecies can be proof for the existence of God.

Follow up the discussion regarding this prophecy with the following 3-minute video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N25Hr2zPWAY&list=PLYkV0xjDy94Z4UiFCDRvYn5De733BZNjN&index=31

Ask the Atfal to ponder over what was discussed in the video and talk about what they understood from it.

Please encourage the Atfal to begin preparing for their ta’leem competitions at home so that they have enough time before ijtemas are held.

Class 2

Please begin every class by checking and recording the progres of each Tifl on the following:

1. memorization of Salat (and its translation for over 10)

2. Improving the quality of Tilawat

3. Preparation for Ta’leem competitions ahead of Ijtema’.

There is a minimum number of ta’leem competitions that each tifl is encouraged to prepare for based on their age.

By now each tifl should have selected the appropriate number of competitions based on their age and begun their preparation. If they have not selected any, please encourage them to do so.

The ijtema syllabus which includes a list of the competitions along with detailed information and what to prepare can be found at the following link: https://www.atfalusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Atfal-USA-Ijtema-Syllabus-2021-2022.pdf

Ages 7-8: Minimum 2 competitions
Ages 9-10: Minimum 3 competitions
Ages 11-12: Minimum 3 competitions
Ages 13-15: Minimum 4 competitions

(This should be encouraged lovingly – if a Tifl really cannot meet the minimum then that’s alright).

For today’s lesson, please introduce the topic by having one of the Atfal recite the following verse from the Qur’an with the translation: “O ye who believe! seek help with patience and Prayer; surely, Allah is with the steadfast.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 154)

Please share the following 3-minute video about prayer with the Atfal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyp3GN6X0DM

Allow the Atfal to reflect on the video for a few minutes before beginning a discussion. Please ask them what they understood from the video. Discuss what parts of the video they felt connected with them and what aspects of it they have seen in their own lives, and how they can apply the idea of “cultivating one’s prayers.”

Please ask the Atfal to share any experiences in their lives through which they were able to see the rewards of sticking with and being patient with their prayers.

After the video and discussion please read the following short article with the Atfal:

https://www.reviewofreligions.org/28964/a-vision-of-greener-pastures/

Use this to continue the discussion with the Atfal regarding patience and prayer. Ask them what they have learned from both the video and article and how they can apply the concept of being patient with one’s prayers in their own lives, and any examples they may know of.

Also, please briefly check in with the Atfal regarding their progress on the memorization of salat to make sure that they are keeping up with their goals and see where they need help.

Please watch the following short video about the acceptance of prayers with the Atfal.

After completing the video, please split the Atfal into two groups, one group for the 7-10 year olds and another group for the 11-15 year olds.

Please have the Murabbi Atfal engage in a discussion regarding the video with the younger Atfal. Please ask them what they remembered from the video and how it is a sign for the existence of God. Ask them if they have had any personal experiences with the acceptance of prayers.

After the video, please read the linked Al-Hakam article with the older Atfal. It is alright if it is not read through completely. Please discuss the article along with the video and ask the Atfal what they were able to gather from them.
